Potrero Hill Undergrounding District
In 1993, residents of part of the Hill started the petition drive for the undergrounding of utilities to eliminate the poles. In October 1999, the Mayor signed legislation completing the Utility Underground District for our part of Potrero Hill. The approved district (UGD 331) are as follows:

  • 19th Street, 1100 - 1400 blocks (between Pennsylvania/Connecticut Sts.)

  • 20th Street, 1100 - 1300 blocks (between Pennsylvania/Missouri Sts.)

  • Mississippi Street, 300 - 400 blocks (between 18th/20th Sts.)

  • Texas Street, 300 - 400 blocks (between 18th/20th Sts.)

  • Missouri Street, 300 block (between 18th/19th Sts.)

  • Connecticut Street, 300 block (between 18th/19th Sts.)

The work was finally completed in mid 2008, only 15 years after we started the process. The Post Top Type E (see photo) light is now the standard light which is being installed at no extra cost to homeowners. Turned out well, although it is not quite as bright as the old ugly lights.
